CORNAFEAN CLUB NOTES

GAA :

A word of thanks to the U8 and U10 from Killeshandra GFC who played Cornafean in two entertaining games on Saturday morning in Cornafean.

Hard luck to our Under 14 boys on their recent defeat to Lavey in the league final. Played on the 3G pitch on a beautiful evening in front of a large crowd this game produced great excitement from start to finish with excellent football on display from both teams. Unfortunately it was the Reds inability to take some of their many scoring chances which proved costly in the end but no doubt the panel will learn from this experience and come back stronger in the future. Thanks to Seamus, Philip and Martin for their hard work and dedication to the team.

Our Under 14 ladies also made history recently by being the first underage ladies team from the Club to appear in a county final. They faced a strong Kingscourt team in Lavey on Bank Holiday Monday last and our girls can be very proud of their performance, although eventually losing the game on a scoreline of Kingscourt 4 goals 4 pts to Cornafean 2 goals 6 points. In fact the Reds were a point up in the game with two minutes left but Kingscourt finished strongly to snatch victory at the death. Cornafean panel: Amy O’Reilly, Amy Wharton, Jamie Gannon, Aideen Kellegher, Aimee Smith, Niamh Beuchannan, Rachael Johnson, Rebecca Smith, Kelly Johnson, Nicole Kilkenny, Gemma Wilson, Shauna McCaffrey, Megan Johnson, Deirbhile McCaffrey, Michelle Galligan, Anna Tully, M.K. Gannon, Roisin Barry, Nicole Brady, Emma McGahern, Chloe McGauran. Thanks to Philip and Neil for all their hard work with the team.

Our Senior Team kept up their recent impressive run of late with two good victories over Swanlinbar and Shannon Gaels respectively in Division 2. The game against Swanlinbar was full of fast flowing football and tough tackling but a goal from Pauric Tully midway through the first half really settled the Reds. Into the 2nd half and when Swanlinbar were looking to press home their advantage, two inspirational points, one each from P. Tully and Adrian McCaffrey helped to push the Reds over the line. On Saturday evening last the Reds hit the ground running against Shannon Gaels and a brace of goals from Adrian McCaffrey and one each from Niall Sheridan and Liam Duignan sealed the result before half time.
